Real life matters more than screens
SeeU is a new-generation social network created in Kazakhstan. Our goal is to bring back real-life connection and to ensure that the digital world complements life rather than replaces it.
The app is available to users aged 16 and over.
Why SeeU
Social networks were conceived as a way to bring people closer, yet over time they have become a contest for attention. People spend more and more time on their phones, while they meet, make friends and talk face to face less and less. We regard this as one of the defining problems of our time.
We created SeeU to change that. The app brings together the familiar features of a social network — posts, messaging, calls and communities — and adds what matters most: the opportunity to meet the people who are nearby.
That is why we measure the success of SeeU not by the time people spend in the app, but by the number of acquaintances and meetings that take place in real life.
How SeeU differs from conventional social networks
We have kept what people value in social networks and given up what stands in the way of real-life connection.
| Conventional social networks | SeeU | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | To hold the user’s attention for as long as possible | To help people meet and get to know each other in real life |
| Meeting people | Begins with messages from a stranger | Begins with a face-to-face meeting with someone nearby |
| Personal details | Getting to know someone requires revealing a great deal about yourself | Your name and profile remain hidden until you decide to share them |
| Personal space | Almost anyone can send you a message | Private messaging is open only to people you trust |
| Signs of attention | Unlimited, and therefore quickly lose their value | Limited in number, so each one carries meaning |
| Advertising | Targeted on the basis of data collected about you | There is no advertising, and personal data is never sold |
